Prada Re-Nylon

A vital component of Prada’s heritage and a hallmark of its approach to contemporary fashion, nylon is an emblem of the brand DNA. The Prada Re-Nylon project represents a commitment to sustainable and truly responsible practice.

The Prada Re-Nylon collection is crafted entirely from regenerated nylon created through the recycling and purification of plastic collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills and textile fiber waste globally. Through a process of de-polymerization, purification and transformation of the new polymers into threads, this material can be made into new nylon fabric.

Sea Beyond

Sea Beyond is an educational programme promoted by the Prada Group and UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) to raise awareness on sustainability and ocean preservation.
Presented in 2020, the first edition of the project involved a network of secondary schools on an international scale and explored the theme of ocean awareness and its values, the issue of plastic-related pollution of the marine environment and the fashion industry's contribution to sustainable production practices for the benefit of the seas. The second edition of the educational module, which ended in June 2022, saw students from ten schools around the world participate in a series of webinars led by UNESCO experts to explore the ten Ocean Decade Challenges for Sustainable Development. In January 2023, on the occasion of International Education Day, the Prada Group and IOC/UNESCO inaugurated the “Kindergarten of the Lagoon” – “Asilo della Laguna” project in Venice, an initiative based on the principles of outdoor education dedicated to children of preschool age, to better understand the ocean and the central role it plays in sustainable development.

Starting in July 2023, the Sea Beyond project is supported by 1% of the proceeds from sales of the Prada Re-Nylon collection, to continuously strengthen the partnership between the Group and IOC/UNESCO.
Sustainability

The project has expanded its areas of intervention: in addition to educational activities, Sea Beyond supports scientific research, develops humanitarian projects, and has opened a Coordination Office for the Decade of the Sea in Venice.

ECONYL®

ECONYL® is a regenerated-nylon yarn that can be recycled an indefinite number of times without affecting the quality of the material. It’s made of recycling discarded plastic that has been collected from landfill sites and oceans across the whole planet. The choice of the ECONYL® yarn for the Prada Re-Nylon collection actively contributes to the reduction of the global warming up to 90%* compared to the use of the virgin nylon yarn.
